Would our lives change that much if we would woke up one day and flying saucers were all around, extraterrestrial contact made. What would change? Religion, technology, economy? Are there more positive things than negative? That is an ongoing debate between scholars who discuss what if we stumbled upon an intelligent extraterrestrial race.
well the guys over at SETI are apparently very eager in contacting an intelligent extraterrestrial race; their scientists have developed a programming code that can send an electronic message to a distance of 20 light years away or something equivalent to about 190 billion kilometers from Earth where they argue, intelligent extraterrestrial could be living! But what if we get an answer to that mail? Or better yet, what if E.T. decides to come knocking on our doorsteps? Is our society ready to have an actual alien encounter? Co exist with other intelligent lifeforms? Well that of course if ET is benevolent. What if the intelligent aliens are actually mean and consider us inferior to them? Causing chaos among Earths population and war breaking out? Could we play this game one-on-one against a potentially more advanced civilization? Well the odds are 50%-50%, and we probably wont know unless we try. That is if E.T. isn’t already here, working with our leaders and governments.
Stephen Hawking warned that inviting aliens to planet Earth could be dangerous, like game over dangerous! According to Prof. Hawking ‘If aliens do visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans,’ he said in a 2010 documentary.
Going back to the message that SETI will be sending out; although everything is ready and prepared, experts have not yet decided what the content of the message will be, so the director of SETI, David Black, opened the cards to a fundamental question: whether a few scientists should be composing the letter and its contents or whether, instead, it should engage all people on Earth, perhaps through the Internet. Interesting right? what would you tell E.T. if you had a chance?
The famous Doritos company ( Yeah those really tasty chips you eat) sent out a message to E.T. in 2008! Yes they did; apparently they are not satisfied with their sales on planet Earth, so they decided to send out an advertising commercial to a potentially habitable planet in a solar system in the Ursa Major located 42 light-years away, they did so by using a radar station in Norway. It would be really awkward if one day Doritos got a message back. Imagine ET snacking on Doritos? Well, anyway… How bad could it be if SETI sends out an message to ET, at least it wouldn’t be concerning food products.
Oh, the Doritos ad in case you wanna take a look at it:
SETI experts have tried to communicate with extraterrestrial civilizations since 1984. The current project will be discussed in the annual meeting of the American Association for Advancement of Science.
