We’ve all seen the tabloids at the end of the grocery store aisles—“Brad really can’t take how much he still loves Angelina!”, “What’s up with the Affleck brothers and all their sleeping around?”—Oh man, it goes on and on like a broken record. It’s hard to keep up, or care, about all of it when it seems most of the headlines and news about celebrities is just another bid for your attention. Which is fine, but we want some good news once and a while! We want to know that marriage lasts!
Well, what if there was a story out there that could be taken and made a beautiful example of?
You’re in luck, then, because there is. And it’s the story of Golide Hawn and Kurt Russel. Two huge names in Hollywood, and around the world. They’ve been together for over 34 years, and they’re still going strong.
These two wonderful humans have been holding hands and making love since 1983, and it looks like nothing is going to stop them. The thing is, they haven’t gotten married. The press has been hounding them about it for years, but they don’t actually seem to care about exchanging vows. In fact, Goldie has been quoted as saying “Everyone always asks the same question, we are kind of having fun with it.”
She looks like the kind of woman who is having fun! Her smile has been gracing the silver screen since her debut in Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In in the late 60’s. Since then, she’s acquire both an Academy Award as well as a Golden Globe. What a catch, huh?
When her and Russell finally met, they didn’t click. Shooting The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band together in 1968, they came to know each other. However, Hawn was 21 at the time, and Russell 16, so she passed on him. Hawn went on to marry another man, Gus Trikonis, but parted with him after about 7 years. She then went on to marry Bill Hudson, the father of Kate Hudson. Russell also married, but that lasted for only 4 years.
Then, in 1983, while filming Swing Shift, they found each other again and started dating. They moved in together, and had a son, Wyatt Russell in 1986, making him the third child between the two of them. Kate Hudson still claims Kurt as a father figure.
When the couple were finally honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, they decided to speak on their love for each other. “Goldie to you, I owe my wonderful life…there’s no one else I’d rather be next to (on the Walk of Fame and in life) than Goldie Hawn,” Russell said. And how about Goldie? “It’s growing together. You can’t just go along and say ‘This is the way I am, so whatever’. No, you really try and to be better and better.
Now, that is a match made in Heaven. Or maybe in Hollywood. Whichever is the case, it’s nice to see that love still wins the day.
