There’s a ton of hullabaloo about GMOs these days—from whether we should be trusting anything that’s been touched by geneticists hands to the “miracle” science that has been leading to all sorts of new kinds of crops. It’s just a whole large mess of information and science and news that may or may not be true, that it’s hard to shake out what you need to know. With the addition of popular names and celebrities, you might be a bit head-spun right now.
Here’s the deal, though: we’ve been doing a whole lot of turning our head from the truth. We haven’t been really reading those ingredient lists because we don’t want to know. We haven’t really been following the news because that would mean we had to change our lifestyles. It’s all right there, for us to make a decision about, but we don’t really follow through.
Why? Because we’re scared, we’re unsure, and we’re hard wired to believe that if something is generally good for the masses, then it’s good for us. And we’ve been coerced, a lot, into believing this to be true. How could a national food chain that we’ve trusted for over 50 years steer us wrong? How could a massive company that employs hundreds of thousands of people be something bad?
Well, it just so happens that these things are exactly what we don’t want to see them to be. So that means it’s time for us to put down the blinders, and take a look. Here’s a good start:
A geneticist called David Suzuki has been spreading the word that things just aren’t right with GMOs and our food. This is a video explaining how he sees what has been happening—
His explanation is a solid one. Worth watching several times in order to start to understand what we’re up against. Which is the first step…We must gather the knowledge in order to make the informed decision.
Here’s what to do, then. Look up information about Monsanto. Look into what this mega-corporation has been doing to the people who refuse to buy their corn and other crops. See what the statistics are on how much the modified crops they produce effect the fields and environments around them versus other kinds of corn. Look into Monsanto vs California, and what glyphosate is. Research where your food comes from, including the source ingredients.
Do this again and again and again. Research how crops are produced and where the basic staples on your table actually come from. Do whatever you can to find measures, tables, statistics, and graphs that chart out the past 100 years of farming, and how GMO has effected those numbers. Look into the disappearance of farmers, heirloom breeds, and whole towns.
When you’ve researched to the point where your eyeballs hurt, and your fingers are numb, sit back for a second and breathe. You are not alone. You are not a weary fighter on the fringes. You have a ton of people who are noticing the terrifying trends and bizarre twisted facts. Search these people out. Find local groups to talk to. Look through Facebook to find individuals who have seen the things you have seen.
Then make a choice. And educated one. About how you’re going to eat and how you’re going to live. Make the choice that is best for you and your family. Ignore what I have to say or your mother or your best friend. Do what is right for you. That will put the power of your life back into your hands. Then….then, my friend, you will have broken out of the experiment.
