In modern society, you can find fluoride in toothpaste, beer, baby formula, and even wine. However, fluoride does not contribute to health – it destroys it!
For many years health experts disagreed about the effects of fluoride in the human brain. However, now, several types of research have been carried out that demonstrate the overall toxicity of fluoride.
The National Research Council classified fluoride as an endocrine disrupter that can impair thyroid function. Moreover, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR 2003) presented four papers on thyroid effects and two papers on parathyroid effects and decided that “there are some data to suggest that fluoride does adversely affect some endocrine glands.”
EPA (the US Environmental Protection Agency) lists fluoride among other 100 chemicals for which there is “substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity.” Exposure to these chemicals in utero or during childhood can provide a variety of neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders.
In a study carried out in 1990 by the National Toxicology program, results revealed that large doses of fluoride were linked to the development of bone cancer in rats.
In the US, fluoride procedures are justified as a part of routine dental care for children to help prevent dental issues, and that is one of the reasons why we use fluoride in our drinking water. However, countless studies discovered that the use of fluoride for children might be the most damaging recommendation for their development and overall health.
Infants exposed to fluoride through baby formula have much higher incidence of dental fluorosis in comparison to their breastfed peers. A 2004 study from the Journal of the American College of Nutrition states, “Our data suggest that the fluoride contribution of water used to reconstitute infant feedings is a major determinant of primary tooth fluorosis.”
Furthermore, a 2014 paper from the Lancet journal mentions fluoride as a developmental neurotoxicant:
“Neurodevelopmental disabilities, including autism, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and other cognitive impairments, affect millions of children worldwide, and some diagnoses seem to be increasing in frequency. Industrial chemicals that injure the developing brain are among the known causes for this rise in prevalence.
In 2006, we did a systematic review and identified five industrial chemicals as developmental neurotoxicants: lead, methylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyls, arsenic, and toluene. Since 2006, epidemiological studies have documented six additional developmental neurotoxicants—manganese, fluoride, chlorpyrifos, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, tetrachloroethylene, and the polybrominated diphenyl ethers.”
Harvard University conducted a meta-analysis in 2013, funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), and they combined 27 studies and observed strong indications that fluoride can adversely affect cognitive development in kids. They also discovered that kids who live in areas with highly fluoridated water have lower IQ scores than those who live in low fluoridated areas.
We should not use fluoride to “prevent” dental cavities and should instead look into proper nutrition for natural prevention. In the 1930’s, Weston A. Price, a dentist, spent ten years traveling around the globe observing the dental health of populations intact by Western Civilization.
Price noted that dental health issues like cavities, crooked teeth, crowding are due to bad diets, and not inherited genetic defects. He noticed that the dental hygiene or the use of fluoride were not the answers for healthy teeth, but the answer for dental health was the lack of refined foods such as white flour, sugar, and vegetable oils.
Fluoride causes more damage than it does good. Continued exposure to fluoride can cause permanent damage to your bones, brain, and more. It turns out you will improve the health of your teeth more by eating proper foods free of processed sugar, white flour, and processed vegetable oils.
