What are the most important factors to a long-term relationship? Communication and letting the little things slide. An artist who knows this well is Yehuda Devir.
In his spare time, the Tel-Aviv-based artist chronicles moments with his wife, Maya, that are humorous and have a biting wit to them. In fact, he’s illustrated so many, he turned the compilation into a series: One of Those Days.
The illustrations reveal what life is like with his beloved and how despite annoying each other, they still share a deep, lasting love. Perhaps most importantly, his renderings convey that grand romantic gestures aren’t what matter most in a relationship. Rather, trust, humor, and appreciation for one’s partner will do just fine.
Devir uses strong, bold lines and a comic book-esque style to capture his and Maya’s day-to-day interactions. Most of the illustrations are humorous while others are painfully relatable. For example, in one illustration, Devir draws himself chasing after collecting his wife’s estranged hairs. In another piece, Maya and Devir are too lazy to move. Rather than clean themselves up, they agree that they’ll just “change the sheets” the next day.
The artist explains on his website: “I graduated with B.Des in Visual Communication at Bezalel, Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem.”
“I do mostly illustrations projects such as posters, comics, Illustrations for magazines, characters design, illustration for clothing, book illustration, logos and other commissions works.”
Following are 10+ of Devir’s illustrations. After viewing them, you’ll understand why he has almost one million followers on Instagram. The artwork might also help you gain new appreciation for your significant other.
