You may want to grab a tissue…
Sometimes, it is easy to forget that humanity has a good side. After all, most of the news is flooded with stories about natural disasters, threats of WWIII, and terrorist attacks. While it may be tempting to want to crawl under a rock and hide — don’t. There are good people in the world, as is evident by the following story.
Recently, a woman named Spring Herbison Bowlin’s captured the most heartwarming scene while at the grocery store. The photo was later uploaded to Facebook, where it has garnered mass amounts of attention. So far, the photo has been shared 50,000 times!
My heart was warmed at Wal-Mart during lunch. This gentleman's items were scanned and he was given the total. He looks…
The simple image shows a grocery store cashier helping an elderly, nervous man count his change. “This gentleman’s items were scanned and he was given the total. He looks apologetically back at me and starts taking handfuls of change out of his pockets,” she wrote.
Apparently, the elderly citizen was getting flustered as he counted his change. Aware that people were waiting on him, he muttered, “I’m so sorry.” Metro reports that his hands and voice shook as he attempted to increase his speed. Fortunately, the cashier was in no hurry.
Bowlin wrote, “This beautiful cashier takes his hands and dumps all the change on the counter and says, ‘This is not a problem, honey. We will do this together’.” At that point, the man continued to apologize as Bowlin and the cashier proceeded to remind him that it was okay for him to take his time.
“They get his transaction handled and he shuffles away. I looked at this wonderful woman and said, “Thank-you for being so patient with him’,” wrote Bowlin. “She shakes her head and replies, ‘You shouldn’t have to thank me, baby. What’s wrong with our world is we’ve forgotten how to love one another.’ I want to be more like her.”
So do we.
In our fast-paced world, it seems like no one has time to slow down anymore. Nearly everyone has road rage, and incidents such as the one above have inspired rage in supermarket shoppers more than once.
Hopefully, the heartwarming story and the poignant image remain fresh in your mind and encourage you to “be the change” you want to see. If each of us were to take action with the hope of making the world a better place, before long, all “modern-day conundrums” would be solved.
Simple ways you can live a happier life and improve other people’s days follow:
- Smile at random people you meet
- Offer to help pregnant women, women with children, and the elderly with their groceries
- Make an effort to compliment others when you notice aspects of their style you appreciate
- If you notice an injustice, speak out — or better yet, take action
- Maintain a positive attitude. If hope is lost, all is lost.
