We often tend to use the terms ‘soulmate’ and ‘life partner’ interchangeably. But they couldn’t be more different when it comes down to specifics.
While life partners are your companions in life’s journey soulmates are much more. Soulmates bring value to your life and help motivate you to grow through life. Life partners are equal companions whereas soulmates act as each other’s mentors and guiding spirit.
There are several differences between the two. Here are a few of them.
Support vs. guidance
While life partners are usually taken strictly in the romantic sense, soulmates can be anyone — your friends, family members, work buddies, and even strangers who brought value into your life. They’re the ones who impart valuable life lessons and come into your life for a specific purpose. And often, when their purpose is fulfilled they’re gone from your life.
Life partners are with you for literally a lifetime, and they support you through all your ups and downs. They help you grow through life and they stand by you as your primary support system whenever you need them. Life partners usually overcome obstacles and relationship hurdles and stick together through thick and thin.
Both your life partner and your soulmate may have a long-lasting relationship with you. But as the name suggests, your relationship with your life partner will last the longest. You have a deeper, more consistent and meaningful relationship with your life partner as you share similar experiences and emotions with them.
Your relationship with your soulmate may end in heartbreak, but life partners are the ones who stay with you through it all.
Time-bound vs timeless
When you meet a soulmate, you may feel an instant connection with them and begin to share similar feelings. But it usually ends up in a chaotic and destructive mess when egos begin to clash and both begin to make each other unhappy.
Life partners, on the other hand, are rock steady. Even the largest wedge between you and them will not drive them apart. Instead, they’ll snap out of it soon enough and come right back to you when the dark ego cloud is lifted. Your relationship with a life partner is calm and relaxed, and they’re the safe and reliable souls you always end up banking on.
Spiritual vs. whimsical
Soulmates share an inexplicable yet deep connection with you. You end up having the same thoughts and emotions, and they usually enter your life to fulfill a specific purpose.
Life partners are much more. They not only connect with you emotionally, they also inspire you to be your best self — intellectually and spiritually. Life partners have a more lasting and meaningful relationship than soulmates.
Long-term vs. momentary
Soulmates may come into your life only for a particular moment in time when you needed them the most. You cannot pin them down and keep them forever. At some point, you need to let them go.
Life partners, however, are here to stay. You tend to feel safe around them and they make you feel loves when they’re around.
There are obvious differences between the too when you put them both under a spiritual microscope. But sometimes they can both be combined into one special person in your life. You soulmate can turn into your life partner, and there can be no relationship more fulfilling than this one.
However, if you have to choose one for a stronger and more lasting relationship, always go for your life partner.
