2015 has been, without a doubt, one of the most sensational years for archeologists and researchers. From the discovery of new, previously unknown humans species to incredible new details in Tutankhamun’s tomb, 2015 has truly been a spectacular year.
Is Queen Nefertiti hiding in plain sight?
We love ancient Egypt and its history, this is why we cannot omit the secret chambers found in the tomb of one of Ancient Egypt’s most enigmatic pharaohs, Tutankhamun.
In a laser scanning of Tutankhamun’s tomb, Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves detected what appeared to be two doors leading to previously unknown and unexplored chambers. The initial exploration and infrared thermography suggested the presence of voids, which would support the hypothesis. Reeves believes that behind one of these walls is the burial chamber of the legendary Egyptian queen Nefertiti, a discovery which would rewrite ancient Egyptian history.
A lost civilization in the Honduran jungle
According to National Geographic, a long lost and previously unknown civilization has been confirmed in the Honduran jungle. This ancient culture inhabited the region over a thousand years ago. Researchers ventured into the Mosquitia region of Honduras in order to confirm aerial images which point to an unknown culture hidden in plain sight. So far, experts have only been able to inspect one of the identified towns with squares, stone sculptures and a pyramid, which are believed to belong to a mysterious pre-Columbian culture. This year, the team plans to return to continue with the investigation. This is one of the most important discoveries in South America.
Homo Naledi, New Species in Human Lineage, Is Found in South African Cave
In autumn, paleoanthropologist Lee Berger officially confirmed the discovery of a new species of the Homo genus named Homo Naledi ‘. Fossils of more than 15 individuals were initially discovered by cavers in 2013, in a nearly inaccessible cave chamber referred to as Rising Star, near Johannesburg.
The finding is shrouded in controversy and raises many questions because of the inexplicable combination of very primitive features with modern elements in the physiology of the discovered remains.
It is also unclear how the remains ended up in a faraway corner of a complex system of caves. Scientists suggest that the remains might have been deposited in some sort of ritual, but the use of ‘rituals’ was, until now, only recognized in modern humans and ‘Neanderthal’.
Although the exact dating of the species also remains a mystery, it is believed that they lived two million years ago, among the ‘Australopithecus’ and ‘Homo erectus’. The ‘Neanderthals’ lived between 230,000 and 28,000 years ago.
The Great Sphinx… 800,000 years old according to study
According to a paper presented at the International Conference of Geoarchaeology and Archaeomineralogy held in Sofia titled: GEOLOGICAL ASPECT OF THE PROBLEM OF DATING THE GREAT EGYPTIAN SPHINX CONSTRUCTION, the Great Sphinx of Giza is at least 800,000 years old.The authors of this paper are scientists Manichev Vyacheslav I. (Institute of Environmental Geochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) and Alexander G. Parkhomenko (Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).
The starting point of these two experts is the paradigm shift initiated by West and Schoch, a ‘debate’ intended to overcome the orthodox view of Egyptology referring to the possible remote origins of the Egyptian civilization and, on the other, physical evidence of water erosion present at the monuments of the Giza Plateau.
